Help on the Way

A weekly podcast deadicated to all things grateful. The Help on the Way Podcast is a spin-off of the long running reddit series. Each week our hosts, TheGame, FiG, and Knob listen to Grateful Dead show and discuss it. These shows are chosen at random, and span from the most primal of primal dead to the MIDI-filled 90s. Paradise waits...

Welcome back to the Help on the Way Podcast, where our number one occupation is talking about the Grateful Dead. This week, we're heading to Rochester, New York, for the Dead's 9/2/80 show at the Community War Memorial Auditorium. Conversation abounds about the 80s vs the 90s, a controversial Iko Iko, and our ten favorite things about the new Dead and Company tour which definitely happened before we recorded this episode. Then enjoy a preview of Set 1!

This week on the Help on the Way Pod, our hosts Game, Fig, and Knob find out that what happens in the Sam Boyd Stadium does not stay in the Sam Boyd Stadium. It's May 15th, 1993, and the Grateful Dead are playing in the band, mostly. It's not the best show featured, but it leads to some interesting discussions about Phil, the end of The Dead, and of course a lengthy tangent on The Beatles.

Happy New Year! Wait, that's not right. Okay, it's sort of right. This week on Help on the Way pod, our hosts Game, Fig, and Knob are letting old acquaintance be forgot and never brought to mind. That's right, we're listening to the Grateful Dead's New Years Eve show from 1991, the band's last New Years show. Much discussion about Vince's contributions without Bruce, Bill Graham's influence, and of course what is the best New Years Eve show.

All three of our hosts, Game, Fig and Knob, are here to listen to The Grateful Dead's February 21st, 1971 show and to talk about this truly unique run of Grateful Dead shows at the Capitol Theatre. Much discussion abounds about the importance of tuning, Grateful Dead cover bands, and the worst Playin' in the Band we've maybe ever heard.

Welcome back! It's George Orwell's nightmare! This week on the Help on the Way podcast, our hosts Game and Knob leave FiG alone to tell you about the Grateful Dead's April 13th, 1984 show at the Hampton Coliseum in Hampton, VA. Much discussion (monologuing?) around a new book FiG read and of course the Cornell '77 Scarlet Fire. Enjoy a nice preview of set 1 following!

Welcome back to Help on the Way pod! This week, our hosts Game, Fig, and Knob come upon a child of God. When they asked him where he was going, he said "I'm going down to Yasgur's Farm, gonna join in a rock 'n' roll band." That's right, we're heading to Woodstock for the Grateful Dead's (in)famous 8/16/69 show. Much discussion abound our favorite Woodstock acts, whether the Dead's Woodstock set is as bad as they say, and what the show's highlight might be... We've got to get ourselves back to the garden!

Welcome back to the Help on the Way podcast. This week, we're joined by all three of our hosts to listen to The Grateful Dead's December 10th, 1979 show in Soldiers' and Sailors' Memorial Hall in Kansas City, KS. There is much discussion of early Brent's contributions, what makes a good Tennessee Jed, and whether the locals call it Soldiers' and Sailors' or Memorial Hall...

Thursday Apr 28, 2022

This week on the Help on the Way podcast, we're joined by our hosts Knob and Fig, as Game has suffered a shattering loss. Nevertheless, we're heading over to Winterland to listen to The Grateful Dead's October 17th, 1978 show- the first Grateful Dead show since their iconic Egypt performances. Much discussion about Europe 72 relistens, our second Scarlet > Fire in a row, and a nitpicky history about U.S. Blues. Stay tuned for a very '78 set two!

Welcome back to the Help on the Way Podcast. This week, our co-hosts Game and Fig are heading where those chilly winds do blow- that's right, we're heading to the Windy City for the Grateful Dead's November 18th, 1978 show at the Uptown Theatre in Chicago, Illinois. Discussions abound about the killer Scarlet > Fire, what's shaking on Shakedown Street (the album), and for some reason our hosts can't stop talking about Brent.

He's heading (accidentally) to St. Paul, Minnesota, for the Grateful Dead's February 17th, 1973 show. Listen to the Music Play

Help on the Way is a podcast about The Grateful Dead. Every week, our randomizer picks a different show to listen to. Our three hosts, Game, Fig, and Knob, discuss what works, what doesn't, and anything else cool about the show. And then you get to enjoy a set of that show! It's like a foreword for a book. Or MST3K for Deadheads. It's a real good time.
